Box Score Lynchburg, VA - The Hollins tennis team made their second trip to Lynchburg for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup. Having lost to Randolph College on the first of the month, Hollins returned to face the Hornets of Lynchburg College on Friday evening.
The #1 doubles team of Gaelin McLeod and Amelia Verkerk got the team off to a good start with an 8-2 win. However, Hollins was unable to gain the advantage as Lynchburg won at #2 and #3 to take the lead, 2-1, into the singles matches.
McLeod and Verkerk made it two for two with each picking up another point in individual play. Htet Myat San won (6-2, 2-6, and 10-3) a three set match at #5 singles to give Hollins their fourth win and evening up the match at 4-4 with one match still being played. Jhovanna Salmeron would take the first set in her match at #2 before falling in set number two and forcing a third, winner take all, set. Salmeron and the Hornets Erika Hadland continued to battle and it was Hadland that came away with the tightly contested match to give the Hornets the 5-4 victory.
Hollins will host Emory & Henry College on Sunday. The match at the Batten Tennis Center is scheduled to start at 2:00pm.
