Hollins Comes Up Short Versus Hornets

Box Score

Roanoke, VA - Shenandoah University came to Hollins for a Sunday tennis match.  The match was moved from yesterday when the cold, wind, and snow didn't allow the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match to be played as scheduled.

The Hornets took an early lead by winning at #1 doubles.  The home team battled back as Jhovanna Salmeron and Htet Myat San evened the match after an 8-4 victory at #2.  Shenandoah earned a 2-1 advantage when the Hollins comeback attempt came up short at the #3 spot.

In singles play, the visitors from Winchester all but ended the match with a trio of quick wins.  San earned her second victory of the afternoon when she picked up a nice, 6-4 and 6-3, win at #4 singles.  With the match almost over, the crowd as well as both teams migrated to court six where a third set tie breaker was being played by Wibecka Oliver and Audrea Wright.  After falling in the first set, Oliver rallied to win the second frame, 6-4, and force the 10 point tie breaker.  With the score even at 5-5, Wright rattled off three straight points to take the lead and held on for a 10-7 win at #6 singles.

Hollins will next travel to Lynchburg to face the Horents on Friday April 15th.
