WildCats Stop Hollins

Box Score

Lynchburg, VA - Due to impending thunder storms in the Lynchburg area, the Hollins tennis match with Randolph College was moved indoors.  Hollins traveled to face the WildCats in search of their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory of the season.

After a three match road trip to Florida, Hollins looked to get back on track upon returning to the Commonwealth.  In doubles play, the two long time conference rivals each earned a point with the Hollins team of Neha Batool and Wibecka Oliver winning, 8-1.  The pivotal third point went to the WildCats when they took #2 doubles, securing a 2-1 lead heading into singles competition.

Hollins would need to win four of the six singles matches to bring the win back to Roanoke.  At #3 singles, Amelia Verkerk won her first set with ease but after falling in sent number two, a third set tie breaker was in order.  Verkerk battled and won a hard fought tie breaker, 10-7, to earn the point.  However, Hollins was unable to add their match total and the victory was awarded to Randolph once the WildCats won their fifth match, 5-2.

Hollins will enjoy a rare, non-conference, April match when they travel to Mary Baldwin next Wednesday afternoon.
