Comeback Bid Falls Just Short

Box Score

Greensboro, NC - The Hollins tennis team battled not only the Quakers but the chilly temperatures when they traveled to Guilford College on Friday afternoon.  After falling to perennial Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) champion Washington and Lee in their conference opener, Hollins arrived in North Carolina looking to even her conference record.

In the three doubles matches, the home standing Quakers earned the extra point by winning at #1 and #3.  At #2 doubles, the Hollins duo of Htet Myat San and Jhovanna Salmeron dominated their opponents, not losing a single game, en route to an 8-0 victory.

In singles play San picked up another point when she won at #5 singles, 6-3 and 6-1.  Amelia Verkerk went three sets at #3 singles before winning the tie breaker 10-5 to take the matchup.  Hollins earned a split in the singles matches with Neha Batool winning yet another three set match (6-4, 0-6, and 10-3) at #4.  However in the end it was not enough as Guilford earned the conference win, 5-4.
