Hollins Denied On The Road

Box Score

Va. Beach, VA -On the afternoon before her 2016 home opener, the Hollins tennis team made the trip to the eastern shore to face Virginia Wesleyan.  Hollins would have to battle the Marlins before coming home to host Randolph-Macon.

For the third consecutive match, Hollins found themselves facing an uphill battle by falling behind in doubles play.  The Hollins duo of Neha Batool and Wibecka Oliver gained a much needed win, 8-5, at #3 to deny the Marlins a sweep of the three doubles matches.

The visitors picked up three wins in singles play but it wasn't enough as Hollins fell, 5-4, for their second match in a row.  Batool completed her perfect day, winning (6-2 and 6-2) at #4 singles.  After winning a three set match against Guilford, Amelia Verkerk won her second Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win of the season with a 4 and 2 win at #3.  Reigning Hollins Student-Athlete of the Week Htet Myat San also won her second conference match when she bested her Marlin opponent (6-4 and 6-4) at the #5 spot.

Hollins will look to pick up an ODAC win tomorrow when they play host to the Yellow Jackets at 1:00pm.
