Wasps Storm Back Against Hollins

Box Score

Roanoke, VA - Hollins played host to Emory & Henry College on Wednesday night as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foes faced off in a rematch of a January showdown.  The Wasps came into the game sitting in third in the conference while Hollins looked to even their season record with Emory & Henry.

Emory & Henry raced out to an early lead and as Hollins continued to struggle from the field, the Wasps took a 14-5 advantage into the second period.  Hollins began to find their range in the second 10 minutes of play and they began to slowly close the gap.  As the quarter came to a close, Hollins had used a 18-12 period to cut the deficit to three, 26-23.

The third quarter was a tale of two stories.  The first five minutes belonged to the home team as Hollins, on the back of a 9-3 run, captured their first lead of the evening, 34-31.  However, the second half of the period and the first two minutes of the fourth clearly belonged to E&H.  The Wasps outscored their hosts 27-1 to, essentially, put the game away with a 58-35 advantage.  As the horn sounded, Hollins had fallen to the Wasps 71-48.

Nikki Valencia (Pearland, TX) paced Hollins with 13 points, four assists, and five steals.  Sally Sroge (Louisville, CO) battled foul trouble all evening to finish with eight points before being disqualified due to fouls.  Jewellanna Parfitt (Roanoke, VA) added six points and a team high 10 rebounds.  Auburn Smith (Las Vegas, NV) and Porsha Waddey (Roanoke, VA) registered six points apiece.

Hollins had no answer for first-year post player Taylor Blevins.  Blevins connected on 10 of her 13 shots, including 2-2 from long range, en route to 26 points and 15 rebounds while Chloe Harris added 12 points and five assists.

Hollins will continue ODAC play on Saturday when they travel to Bridgewater College for a 4:30 tip.
