Royals Complete Season Sweep Of Hollins

Box Score

Roanoke, VA -For the second time this season, Hollins played Eastern Mennonite in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.  Hollins fell to the Royals in mid-January and looked to exact a bit of revenge on Saturday afternoon.  The home team hung around until a third quarter run by Eastern Mennonite put the score out of reach as the Royals completed the season sweep, 76-45.

Before the tip-off, Hollins took a moment to honor her two seniors, Auburn Smith (Las Vegas, NV) and Jordan Persinger (New Castle, VA).  After the festivities, the visitors from Harrisonburg wasted no time in building a quick, 6-0, advantage.  After a three pointer by Nikki Valencia (Pearland, TX), the Royals once again began to build onto their lead and pushed it to double digits, 13-3.  However, the home team responded and rattle off six straight points to cut the deficit to four.  Eastern Mennonite used their full court pressure to once again seize control and pushed the lead to 25-12 at the first quarter intermission.  The second period was a closely tested affair but once again the road team used a late push to take the lead into the half, 42-24.

Hollins came out in the second half and began to cut into the lead.  With 5:53 left in the third, Valencia hit another three pointer to pull Hollins to with 33-49.  Unfortunately, Hollins would get no closer as the deep bench of the Royals kept the pressure on their hosts seeing 10 different players added to the scoring column.  As the horn sounded, Eastern Mennonite used a 44-30 advantage on the glass and 48.3% shooting to pull away for the ODAC victory.

Valencia continued her stellar play as of late with a game high 15 points and five assists.  Smith added 12 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in her "Senior Day" celebration.  Sally Sroge (Louisville, CO) registered 10 points and five rebounds to give Hollins a third player in double figures.

Shaneyea Conwell paced a quartet of Royals in double-digits with 13 points and five rebounds.  Reigning ODAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year Jess Rheinheimer netted 12 points while grabbing seven rebounds.  Teammates Myneshia Walker and Lindsey Krisak joined the 2015 Josten's Trophy winner with 12 points.  Alicia Ygarza handed out seven of EMU's 24 assists while playing just 17 minutes.

Hollins will wrap up their home schedule on Wednesday night when cross-town rival Raonoke College comes to campus for a 7:00pm start.
