Hollins Travels To Face ODAC's Best

Box Score

Greensboro, NC - The Hollins University basketball team traveled out of state to face the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) leading Quakers of Guilford College.  Guilford came into the contest looking to get back on track after falling to Eastern Mennonite, only their second conference loss of the season.  Hollins would need it's best effort to reverse the result from an earlier matchup, won by the Quakers 65-54.

The visitors got just what they needed by racing out to a quick 7-2 advantage.  The Quakers started to chip away at the lead and tied the game, 9-9, at the 5:30 mark of the first quarter.  Guilford then went on to dominate play for the remainder of the first half.  After closing the first period on a 17-2 run, The Quakers continued to build their advantage by winning the second 10 minutes of play by a 25-3 score.  Hollins began to play better in the second half and took the final period 22-16.  However it wasn't near enough as Guilford pushed their conference record to 11-2 with the 91-46 victory.

Nikki Valencia (Pearland, TX) connected on eight of her 19 shots to pace Hollins with 17 points, three rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals.  Auburn Smith (Las Vegas, NV) and Sally Sroge (Louisville, CO) added seven points apiece with Sroge grabbing a team high eight rebounds.

Anais Weatherly, 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Ymani Breedlove, 12 and eight, led a balanced Guilford attack.  Amy Steller and Lauren Ramsey each posted 11 points as 13 different Quakers contributed in the scoring column.

Hollins will return home for a weekend visit from Eastern Mennonite on Saturday afternoon.  The game with the Royals is scheduled to tip at 2:00pm.
