Hollins Knocks Off Arch Rivals

Roanoke, VA - The annual tennis matchup of arch rivals, Hollins and Sweet Briar was held at the Batten Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.  Hollins used a 3-0 sweep in the doubles matches to take an early advantage.

Hollins #2 doubles team of Madeline Perry (Virginia Beach, VA) and Amelia Verkerk (Chapel Hill, NC) earned the first point of the afternoon for a Hollins team looking for their first conference win of the season.  Perry and Verkerk swept the #2 duo from Sweet Briar, 8-0.  When the singles matches started, it was once again Hollins that landed the first point when Victoria Coffee (Plano, TX) won, 6-0 and 6-0, at #1 singles.  Hollins added singles wins at #4, #5, and #6 to finish off the Vixens with a 7-2 ODAC victory.

With the win, Hollins got off to the start they were looking for in their current five match in six day stretch.  Hollins will look to win back to back conference matches when they play host to Guilford College tomorrow afternoon.  Tomorrow's match with the Quakers is rescheduled for an earlier postponed match due to the cold and wet start to the spring season.
