Hollins Bested By Defending Champs

Box Score

Ashland, VA - The Hollins University basketball team traveled to face the reigning ODAC Champions on Saturday afternoon.  Hollins took on Randolph-Macon for the second time this season, having fallen to the Yellow Jackets back in late November.  Randolph Macon built a 20 point halftime lead, cruising to a 79-41 ODAC victory.

The Yellow Jackets, currently tied for 2nd in the conference with a 10-2 mark, started the game on a 8-0 run.  After a Kaitlyn Taylor (Gastonia, NC) bucket got Hollins on the board, Macon once again began to pull away and at the 10 minute mark of the first half, pushed their lead to double digits.  Hollins stayed within a dozen points before a Randolph-Macon spurt pushed the lead to 20 at the break, 44-24.

The second half saw the home standing Yellow Jackets slowly build onto their advantage throughout the half.  The high scoring Yellow Jackets shot over 50% from the field while holding their visitors to just over 30% en route to picking up the ODAC win.

For the first time this season, Hollins failed to see any individual player reach double figuresTaylor Catron (Tazewell, VA) paced Hollins with nine points and Jewellanna Parfitt (Roanoke, VA) added eight points and a team high 10 reboundsAuburn Smith (Las Vegas, NV) came off the bench to net six points while Taylor led a trio of players with four points apiece.

Randolph-Macon features a trio of scorers currently ranked in the top 10 in the league.  Hollins held leading scorer Hannah Livermon to just three points but Sarah Parsons, 19, and Katie Anderson, 11, combined to match their 30 point per game average.

Hollins returns home for a mid week showdown with Emory & Henry College on Wednesday night.  The game with the Wasps is scheduled to tip at 7:00pm.
