Quakers Eliminate Hollins From ODAC Tournament

Box Score

Greensboro, NC - Hollins traveled to face Guilford College in the opening round of the 2015 ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament.  The winner of Tuesday night's game would earn a trip to Salem, VA for the quarterfinal round against Virginia Wesleyan College on Friday afternoon.  The two conference foes had faced once this season with the Quakers coming away with a 66-48 win.

Hollins would need to get off to a quick start if they wanted to exact some revenge on Guilford and advance in the 12 team tournament.  However, the home team struck first, opening the game on a 14-3 run.  At the 13:03 mark of the first half, Amber Markovitz (Branford, CT) hit a free throw to cut the Guilford lead to 10.  Over the next five minutes of play, the Quakers began to pull away from their guests and with 5:43 remaining in the half, built their lead to 15 points.  Hollins would score just four more points before the break staking Guilford to a 21 point halftime advantage.

Hollins shot just over 22% from the field during a first half that saw the Quakers enjoy a 27-7 advantage on the glass.  The second half was almost a carbon copy of the first with Guilford contolling play during the second 20 minutes.  When the final horn sounded, the home team had earned the right to play the Marlins on Friday afternoon, 74-28.

Jewellanna Parfitt (Roanoke, VA) led Hollins with eight points.  Taylor Catron (Tazewell, VA) added five points and a team high seven rebounds while Hannah Moss (Mt. Holly, NC) came off the bench to record four points and two boards.

Anais Weatherly led a trio of Quakers in double figures with a game high 15 points.  Lauren Ramsey added 13 points with Jordyn Brown coming off the bench to score 12.  Weatherly completed the double double with 11 rebounds and led the Guilford defense with five steals.

With the loss, Hollins wraps up their 2014-15 season with a 3-23 mark.
