Virginia Beach, VA - The Hollins basketball team waged a two day battle with the elements before even taking the floor in their regular season finale.  Hollins had to postpone a trip to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday and after leaving early on a icy Sunday morning, got caught up in a traffic jam due to three different accidents on Interstate 81.  Once Hollins reached the Virginia Beach campus, the team had a tough time getting started against the home standing Marlins.

Virginia Wesleyan used a 21-4 opening run to all but end Hollins hope of picking up a victory heading into next week's ODAC Tournament.  Hollins started to play a little better but as the first half came to an end, the visitors were looking up at a 41-12 deficit.  The second half once again saw the home team extend their advantage.  Hollins didn't give up, scoring five straight points, four by Jewellanna Parfitt (Roanoke, VA), to spark a run that saw Hollins play the Marlins even the rest of the way.

Parfitt led Hollins with 12 points and three steals.  Britney Campbell (Silver Spring, MD) and Taylor Catron (Tazewell, VA) added six points apiece.  Campbell grabbed a team high nine rebounds while Catron added five. 

Virginia Wesleyan used a balanced attack that saw 12 different players score on the afternoon.  Andrea Paphites led the way with 14 points and seven boards.  Senior Symonne Newsome posted a big all-around game by recording 10 points, four rebounds, seven assists, and six steals and teammate Brittany Glasco added nine points and nine rebounds.

Hollins will have to catch their breath and regain their legs as a trip to Greensboro awaits the team in the opening round of the 2015 ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament.  Hollins will face Guilford College on Tuesday night for a 7:00pm tip-off.
