Hollins Falls In Home Finale

Box Score

Roanoke, VA - Wednesday night marked the final regular season home game for the Hollins basketball team.  Hollins, fresh off a big ODAC road win on Saturday, looked to win back to back games for the first time since November.  To get the win streak going, Hollins would have to beat their cross-town rivals from Roanoke College.  Hollins fell to the Maroons back on January 21st as Hollins looked to turn the tables on their rivals.

After a Roanoke College basket to start the game, Hollins scored on two straight possessions to take the lead.  Unbeknownst to the home team, the lead would be their final of the night.  The visitors from Salem scored 10 of the game's next 11 points to build a seven point advantage.  Jewellanna Parfitt (Roanoke, VA) hit a three pointer to close the gap but the Maroons once again went on a run.  This time, the Green and Gold could not slow the momentum of Roanoke and after six scoreless minutes, Hollins trailed 28-10.  Thanks to 12 turnovers, 24% shooting, and eight Roanoke College offensive rebounds, Hollins found themselves looking up at their visitors, 41-20.

The second half started out with a pair of Hollins turnovers and four Roanoke offensive rebounds as the Maroons extended their advantage.  Hollins found it a little bit easier on the offensive end during the second 20 minutes, but the damage was done as Roanoke cruised to a 84-47 ODAC win.

Britney Campbell (Silver Spring, MD), playing her final home game, led Hollins with 11 points.  Campbell added four rebounds and three assists while Giselle Verville (Charlotte, NC) notched 10 points on three of seven shooting.  Parfitt recorded seven points to go with a team high eight rebounds.  Amber Markovitz (Branford, CT) came off the bench to score nine points and five rebounds.

Cary Beahm led all scorers with 16 points and rounded out her double-double with 13 boards.  Meghan Gadell added 15 points and Jamella Foster came off the bench to score 10.  Roanoke College scored 26 points off their 21 offensive rebounds while converting 24 Hollins turnovers into another 32 points.

Hollins will wrap up their regular season with a trip to Virginia's eastern shore on Saturday.  Hollins will play Virginia Wesleyan College at 2:00pm on Saturday before beginning play in the ODAC Basketball Tournament on Tuesday.
