2015 Home Finale For Hollins

Box Score

Roanoke, VA -After taking time to give thanks over the holiday break, the Hollins basketball team played their final home game of the semester on Wednesday night.  Hollins played host to Washington and Lee as both teams come into the matchup looking for their first conference win of the season.  The Generals broke open a close game during a late second quarter run to give the visitors their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory of the young season.

The two ODAC foes traded the lead back and forth throughout much of the opening period.  With 2:20 left to play in the first and the score tied at 11-11, Washington and Lee used their experience to take advantage of a couple of Hollins miscues to end the quarter on a 10-2 run, seizing control of the game.  Hollins made some defensive adjustments and held their visitors scoreless for the first four minutes of the second period, but a late General run allowed allowed W&L to maintain its' eight point cushion.

The second half saw the Generals take firm control of the matchup by hitting on five of their 15 attempts from long range.  Washington and Lee hit a total of nine, three pointers for the game and every time Hollins looked poised to trim the lead, a long range bomb allowed the Generals to maintain their advantage.  After five minutes of second half play, Hollins found themselves down just 10 points but the Generals used their depth and hot outside shooting to pull away and secure the victory, 72-50.

Sally Sroge (Louisville, CO) paced the home team with 18 points and four rebounds.  Junior Jewellanna Parfitt (Roanoke, VA) joined her teammate in double figures with 14 while Porsha Waddey (Roanoke, VA) added six points, eight rebounds, three assists, and a game high four steals.  Nikki Valencia (Pearland, TX) and Auburn Smith (Las Vegas, NV) posted identical lines of five points and six rebounds with Smith handing out five assists.

Emily Perszyk was on fire from long range, hitting five shots from behind the arc to pace Washington and Lee with 19 points.  Paige Corvino added a pair of three pointers en route to 12 points and post player Emma Redding recorded nine points and five rebounds.  Senior Shelbi Hendricks posted a solid all around effort with eight points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots.

Hollins will wrap up first semester play on Monday night when they travel to Winston-Salem to face Salem College in non-conference action.
