Hollins Falls Just Short On The Road

Box Score

Lynchburg, VA - Friday night saw Hollins head out on the road in search of their first victory against ODAC competition this season.  The game however, will not count in the conference standings as the game is considered a non-conference contest.  Randolph College would be the last road opponent for a Hollins team that will wrap up their first semester play with a pair of home games before the Christmas break.  The WildCats held off a late Hollins rally to secure the 57-50 win.

Hollins started the game by opening the scoring and holding the lead during the opening stages of the matchup.  Randolph answered and quickly closed the gap and after exchanging the lead back and forth, the game was tied at 9-9 with 12:55 remaining in the first half.  The WildCats would stretch the lead to as many as eight points before settling for a six point advantage, 28-22, at the break.

After trading baskets for the first few posessions of the second frame, Randolph once again went on a run to push the lead into double digits.  Jewellanna Parfitt (Roanoke, VA) hit a three pointer to spark a 7-0 Hollins run and close the gap to a single possession.  However, Randolph regained control and with just over five minutes left to play, Hollins found themselves down by the largest margin of the evening, 12 points.  Taylor Catron (Tazewell, VA) hit the first of her trio of three pointers down the stretch to start the Hollins rally.  Catron scored 11 of the visitor's next 13 points to cut the lead to just three points with 36 ticks remaining on the clock.  Randolph hit their free throws as the time ticked away as the Hollins comeback bid fell short.

For the third consecutive conference game, Catron led Hollins in scoring.  The sophomore registered 16 points, four rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals.  Fellow sophomore Parfitt added 11 points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Shay Seals (Franklinton, LA) came off the bench to score seven points while senior Britney Campbell (Silver Spring, MD) battled foul trouble all night en route to six points and a team high seven rebounds in just 19 minutes of play.  Amber Markovitz (Branford, CT) added six points and two rebounds.

The starting backcourt of Abigail Bullins and Taylor Samuels led Randolph.  Bullins went 6-6 from the free throw line to lead the way with 13 points while Samuels added 12.  Jensen Hoover had eight points and nine rebounds and Jaqueline Hockman added nine points and six rebounds.

Hollins will step out of conference for a game with Sewanee tomorrw in Roanoke.  The game will tip at 2:00pm and can be seen live on the web by going to First Team Broadcasting.
