Box Score Roanoke, VA - The ODAC season started in earnest tonight with four conference matchups on the schedule. Hollins had the daunting task of hosting the defending ODAC champions, Randolph-Macon in their conference debut. Hollins played the Yellow Jackets even for the first 10 minutes, but the champs were too much as Macon pulled away for the 85-54 ODAC win.
Hollins scored the first basket of the game when point guard Auburn Smith (Las Vegas, NV) drove the lane and dropped off a pass to Kaitlyn Taylor (Gastonia, NC) for the layup. The Yellow Jackets responded with a three pointer as both teams traded the lead back and forth. Hollins led, 11-8, with 12 minutes left to play in the first half but that's when the Yellow Jackets went on one of their game controlling runs. Randolph-Macon scored 10 straight points over the next four minutes to seize the momentum. The Yellow Jackets outscored their hosts 25-10 the rest of the way to take a big lead into the break.
The Yellow Jackets came out in the second half and picked up right where they left off and built the lead to 26 points. Hollins wouldn't quit and started to chip away at the Macon advantage. Taylor scored four consecutive points and then sophomore Taylor Catron (Tazewell, VA) got into the scoring column. Catron was shut out in the first half but scored five of her 10 second half points to cut the lead to 19. Hollins wasn't done as first year center Hannah Moss (Mount Holly, NC) scored the games next four points and after a Hollins free throw the lead was done to 14 points, 40-54. However, the Yellow Jackets regained their composure and once again began to pull away. With 3:07 left on the clock, Hollins had played their visitors even in the second half.
Catron led Hollins with 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals. Senior Britney Campbell (Silver Spring, MD) grabbed a team high eight rebounds to go with her six points. Moss, Taylor, and Jewellanna Parfitt (Roanoke, VA) each scored eight points while Smith led the team with four assists.
Hannah Livermon went 4-8 from the three point line en route to a game high 22 points. Senior guard Sarah Parsons came into the game averaging 16.8 points per game added 19 and reigning ODAC Player of the Week, Katie Anderson registered a double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Hollins will take a couple of days to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday before getting back to action nex Wednesday night. Hollin swill host Shenandoah University at 7:00pm as they look to even their record.
