ROANOKE, Va. -- Most people use Saturday's to put in work at home. The Hollins volleyball team is no different as they put in work on Saturday and swept Trinity (DC) 25-7, 25-8 and 25-3 before also sweeping Wilson 25-15, 26-24 and 25-17.
The first win of the day was a team effort on Hollins part, as every player on the roster got time on the court.
Kenna Esquibel and Tyler Sesker had big games, leading HU in kills with nine and six, respectively. They also had huge kill percentage with Esquibel hitting .615 and Sesker hitting a blistering .857. As a team, Hollins also had a season-high 19 service aces with seven different players having at least one and Kiki Speights leading the way with five.

Hollins came out with a lot of confidence against Wilson and it showed from the get-go.
They jumped out to an early 9-4 lead before Wilson went on a 7-0 run to take an 11-9 advantage. The two teams traded points to 13-11 Wilson but then HU went on a run of their own, 9-1, to take a six point lead. They finished out the set 5-1 and took set one 25-15.
Set two found HU trailing for the majority and just two points away from dropping the set. But trailing 24-23, Hollins reeled off three straight, highlighted by a block from Speights and Hannah Arthur and an Arthur kill, to take the second set 26-24.
Much like set two, Hollins trailed for a large chunk of set three. But with Wilson leading 15-7, Hannah Piatak went on a serving spree, leading HU to a 10-0 run, forcing a Wilson time out. The Phoenix wouldn't recover, through, as the Green and Gold finished the match on a 7-2 run to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Defensively, Piatak's 22 digs led the charge and Mahan had 15.
Hollins will hit the road on Wednesday, Sept. 25 as they head to DC for a rematch from today. They'll take on Trinity at 6 pm.
