Hollins Sweeps Day Two of Greensboro Invitational

GREENSBORO, NC – A day after getting swept at the Greensboro Invitational, this time it was Hollins that broke out the brooms as they won six of seven sets, knocking off Johnson University (Fla.) 3-1 and Mid-Atlantic Christian University 3-0.

Johnson University

Led by a double-digit kill day from Kiki Speights, Hollins picked up their first win of 2019, beating JU 25-15, 25-15, 22-25, 25-23. To go along with her 11 kills, Speights also had a service ace, three digs and four blocks. Amanda Mink and Hannah Arthur also had a big match for Hollins, adding nine and eight kills, respectively.

Casey Mahan (19) and Zoe Brooks (10) combined for 29 assists, setting Hollins up for 41 kills in the match. Mahan also added 12 digs for a double-double.

Hannah Piatak led the way with 35 digs while Mink had 13 that held JU to just a .024 hitting percentage. The defensive also finished the match with eight block solos and eight block assists.

Mid-Atlantic Christian

Another monster match from Speights led the way for Hollins in their 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-16) sweep of Mid-Atlantic Christian. She had a match-high 13 kills and just one error, giving her a hitting percentage of .632. She also tallied three aces and a pair of blocks.

Arthur, along with Tyler Sesker and Kenna Esquibel, each had five kills to help pace an offense that hit .256 for the match.

Mahan and Brooks each added double-digit assists, with 13 and 12, respectively.

Defensively, Hollins held MACU to a -.048 hitting percentage, adding six blocks. Piatak also had another double-digit dig match, adding 10.

The sweep sends Hollins to 2-2 overall.

 

What's Next

Hollins will be in action on Wednesday as they head to Mary Baldwin for a mid-week clash with the Fighting Squirrels. The match starts at 7pm.
