Event: Tennis - Meredith at Hollins (Roanoke, VA)
The lead: For the second time in two days and the third in four, the Hollins tennis team defended her home courts on Monday afternoon. Meredith College made the trip from Raleigh in a battle of two teams looking for their first win of the spring.
The result: Meredith 8-1
How it happened: The Angels raced out to a 3-0 advantage against a weary Hollins squad. Due to injury, Hollins put out a re-vamped singles lineup looking to rebound after the partners matches. Meredith ran the table at #2-6 to put the match away. However, on court one the #1 singles match was just in a first set tie-breaker. Hollins took the set and with nightfall approaching, the coaches decided on a 10 point "pro set" moving forward. With the set tied at 8-8, Kateri Johnson won consecutive points to take the match.
- After teaming with Alexis Morring at #1 doubles, Johnson returned to win the marathon match with a pair of tie-breakers (7-6, and 10-8)
- Sarah Jordan Snoddy moved up to the second spot and took four games off her opponent
- At #6 singles, Amanda Dobert played her first collegiate match, falling 6-2 and 6-1
What's next: Hollins will host Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Guilford College on Thursday in a re-scheduled match from earlier in March.
