ROANOKE, Va. - For many college students, being in the pool is what they do during break after they've taken care of business.
For the Hollins swim team, the pool is where they took care of business Saturday before going on break. The Green and Gold won 10 of 11 events en route to a 106-65 win over Southern Virginia.
Emily Miehlke had a very strong individual day for Hollins, picking up wins in all three of her events. She dominated the 200 free by almost 17 seconds while also picking up victories in the 100 and 500 free. Molly Sullivan, Hollins' resident distance swimmer, snagged a fifty second win in the 1000 free and finished second in the 500 free, just behind Miehlke. She also finished second in the 100 breast.
Hanna DeVarona picked up a pair of individual wins, winning the 200 IM by 30 seconds and also grabbing victory in the 100 breast. Jesslyn Hammond also picked up points for HU with her two individual events, finishing fourth in both the 100 and 200 free.
Also picking up individual wins was Alex Sanchez in the 50 free and Summer Jaime in the 100 fly. Jules Brell and Megan Bull picked up seconds in the 100 fly and 100 back, respectively, while Madeline Evangelista was third in the 50 free.
The relay of Bull, DeVarona, Sanchez and Evangelista took first in the 200 medley relay while Hammond, Jaime, Brell and Emily Clarke was third. Evangelista, Bull, Jaime and Brell also picked up a win in the 200 free relay.
Hollins will have some time off before their next meet as they'll swim against in a tri-meet against Ferrum and Sweet Briar on Jan. 17. The meet will be held at Ferrum and it starts at 6 pm.
