Swimming Falls to Randolph-Macon

Swimming Falls to Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. - Usually, you head towards water to get away from bees

For the Hollins swim team, however, the water was where they ran into a pack of Yellow-Jackets as the Green and Gold took on Randolph-Macon in a Friday night dual.

RMC came away with the 89-61 win but HU had some strong finishers on the night.

Individual Results

Hanna DeVarona picked up nine points for Hollins when she grabbed first place in the 100 breaststroke. She also picked up a second place in the 200 freestyle. Teammate Emily Miehlke finished right behind DeVarona in the 200 free, grabbing third. She was second in the 100 freestyle to wrap up her individual events.

Jesslyn Hammond had a strong day finishing third in both the 50 and 100 freestyle while Alex Sanchez was second in the 100 backstroke and Madeline Evangelista was second in the 50 free.

In her only individual event, Summer Jaime picked up four big points for Hollins, finishing second in the 100 butterly. Jules Brell finished right behind Jaime in the 100 fly, grabbing third place.

HU's resident distance swimmer, Molly Sullivan, finished second in the 500 freestyle and second in the 200 IM.

Relay Results

The team of Evangelista, Jaime, Sanchez and Emily Clarke finished second in the 200 medley relay while Sanchez, DeVarona, Miehlke and Evangelista also finished second in the 200 free relay. Jaime, Hammond, Brell and Sullivan finished right behind them, grabbing third.
