ROANOKE, Va. - There's nothing better than a home swim meet.
You get your own fans, your own starting blocks and the water isn't quite as cold. So after spending the first month of the season on the road, the Hollins swim team finally welcomed an opponent to their home pool.
Hollins took on cross-town rival Roanoke on Saturday in a dual meet. The Maroons came away with the 143-32 victory but Hollins had some strong individual performances.
Molly Sullivan picked up a third place in the 1000 freestyle, touching in 13:59.10.
In the 50 free, Hanna DeVarona and Madeline Evangelista finished third and fourth, respectively, in 27.73 and 29.66. DeVarona also finished second in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 1:13.39. Summer Jaime grabbed a third place in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:55.12.
Jesslyn Hammond had a strong day picking up personal bests in both the 50 and 100 freestyle.
The team of Sanchez, DeVarona, Miehlke and Jaime was third in the 200 medley relay while Hammond, Mattie Tindall, Jules Brell and Evangelista grabbed fourth. Sanchez, Jaime, Brell and Evangelista also picked up a second in the 200 free relay to round out the scoring for HU.
Hollins will head to Ashland on Friday for a dual meet against Randolph-Macon. The first event is scheduled for 5 pm.
