Soccer Drops Season Opener in Defensive Battle

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Hollins University soccer team kicked off their 2019 regular season on Friday with a road trip up to Pennsylvania.

The two teams played to a scoreless halftime before Wilson added a goal in the 58th minute and the 88th minute to drop Hollins 2-0.

How It Happened

The Hollins defense stepped up in the first half, keeping the Phoenix off the board into the half. Madisen Charles, getting just her second collegiate start in the net for Hollins, made four saves to anchor the defense.

In the second half, the Phoenix upped the pressure and was able to put one past Charles in the 58th minute. That would turn out to be the game winner as Hollins could only muster one shot.

  • Caylin Smith had Hollins' lone shot of the game, which came in the 44th minute.

What's Next

Hollins will continue their Pennsylvania road trip on Saturday with a matchup against Penn St. Mont-Alto. The match is set to begin at noon.
