FERRUM, Va. - For the second straight game, Hollins' shooting woes continued as the Green and Gold shot just 30% (17-56) from the field in a 76-54 loss to Ferrum.
How It Happened
Serena Lytton and Keyazia Taylor got things going for Hollins (7-5, 2-4 ODAC) with back-to-back buckets to start the game. The two teams would trade points back-and-forth until Taylor hit a jump shot with less than a minute left to give HU an 11-10 lead after one.
Ferrum (2-11, 2-4 ODAC) took the lead early in the second on a pair of freethrows and a jumper before Lenah Clements and Brianna Lohrmann put Hollins back in front. Neither team could pull ahead for the next few minutes until, with the score tied at 22, Ferrum went on a 17-4 run to end the half, taking a 39-26 lead into the break.
The Panthers continued their hot shooting, scoring the first seven point of the third quarter. Sydney Strange drilled a three to give Hollins their first points of the third, at the 7:04 mark. Unfortunately, it seemed like anytime HU seemed to gain any ground, Ferrum answered with points of their own.
Hollins had just two players in double figures for the night as Kayla Surles had a game-high 18 points, including hitting all nine freethrows. Lytton added 10 points. Taylor had a strong defensive night, finishing with a team-high 12 boards. Lohrmann chipped in eight points and eight rebounds.
Stat of the Game
-Ferrum took advantage of a 17-5 advantage in the offensive rebound category and turned them into 17 second chance points.
HU will look to get back in the win column when they head up 81 for an ODAC matchup with Eastern Mennonite on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 pm.
