ROANOKE, Va. - All good things must come to an end.
Unfortunately for Hollins, that means the team's win streak, which had reached a historic five games, came to an end Saturday in a 61-51 loss to visiting Randolph-Macon.
How It Happened
The Yellow Jackets offense seemed to still be riding high from their 22-point win over Lynchburg on Thursday as they jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead over HU. Lenah Clements added the first three points for the Green and Gold but RMC (4-6, 3-2 ODAC) continued to add to their lead. With Randolph-Macon leading 11-4, a three from Kayla Surles and a layup from Yasmine Tyler sandwiched an RMC freethrow to pull Hollins (7-4, 2-3 ODAC) within three, at 12-9. The Yellow Jackets would score the final seven points of the quarter to take a 19-9 lead after one.
RMC was able to extend their lead to 24-9 before HU went on a 10-3 run to pull within eight but still trailed by 10 at the half.
The two teams traded buckets to start the third until Serena Lytton and Chesslyn Owens scored the next nine points and whittled the lead down to six. After pulling back ahead at 45-39, Clements hit a huge three to cut the lead to three. But a foul with just six seconds left in the quarter put RMC ahead five heading to the final frame.
Hollins' offense went ice cold in the final quarter, scoring just one point across almost six minutes. During that time, Randolph-Macon was able to put the game away and give Hollins their third ODAC loss of the season.
Lytton's 12 points was tops for Hollins while Kayla Surles added 11.
