WINSTON-SALEM, NC. - Hollins basketball hasn't stepped on the court for a game in 18 days. But you would never know it by the way HU came out in their first quarter against Salem on Monday.
Hollins finished the final two minutes of the first quarter on a 9-1 run en route to a 24-point, 76-52, win over Salem.
How It Happened
Yasmine Tyler got the scoring started right off the bat, using three layups, including one off an offensive rebound, to put Hollins (7-3, 2-2 ODAC) ahead 6-0. Lenah Clements added a three and Keyazia Taylor hit a free throw to give the Green and Gold a 10-0 lead before Salem (0-10, 0-3 USA South) could even get on the board. HU held the Spirits scoreless for almost four minutes, almost a mirror image of the teams' first meeting, a 63-40 HU win. Hollins picked up points from Taylor and Kayla Surles to take a commanding 14 point lead after one.
Salem was able to find a bit more offensive rhythm in the second quarter, matching Hollins point-for-point until back-to-back baskets from Kayla Surles and Tyler put HU ahead by 18. Serena Lytton had a big second quarter for Hollins, adding 11 points on 4-6 shooting, including three threes. The Green and Gold went into the break leading 36-20 and having held Salem to just 25% shooting from the field.
Offense was the name of the game in the third quarter for Hollins as HU outscored Salem 24-13 to put the game out of reach. With just over three minutes left in the quarter, Tyler Sesker used her 6'5" frame to snag a pair of rebounds, one an offensive, and add four points. Salem outscored HU 19-16 in the fourth, but the game was never in question as HU added to their historic win streak, pushing it to five games.
Lytton led all scorers with 19 points, which came on an efficient 7-14 shooting. She also added four steals. Kayla Surles chipped in 18 points, four steals and four assists while Clements had a nice game, putting up 13 points and seven rebounds. Tyler finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine boards. Sesker also finished the night with nine rebounds.

-Hollins outmuscled Salem down low, outscoring the Spirits 42-18 in the paint.
-HU's speed and length was on display as they had an 18-2 advantage in fastbreak points.
Hollins will be back home for an ODAC showdown with Randolph-Macon on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 pm.
