Golden Acorn Invitational Goes To Hollins

Event: Cross country - Hollins at the Golden Acorn Invitational (Staunton, VA)

The lead: The Hollins cross country team took the course in Staunton for the Gold Acorn Invitational on Saturday morning. Hollins would challenge host Mary Baldwin as the two long time rivals would square off in a dual meet.

The result: Hollins 1st place. Evelyn Foster, individual champion.

Hollins notes: 

  • Foster won the event by over one minute. Her time of 00:23:01.59 over the 5K course was 1:07.33 faster than her nearest competitor
  • Francesca Reilly would finish 4th (00:24:51.17) 
  • In her first collegiate race, Maria Hatch would finish 12 seconds behind Reilly to give Hollins three of the top five runners
  • Debra Henke and Kacie Shifflett just seconds ahead of the remaining Mary Baldwin runners to secure the five point victory 

What's next:  Hollins will return to Blacksburg to compete in the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational on September 14th.
