Va. Beach, VA - The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) held it's 2017 Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning. Hollins traveled to compete in the 12 team, 94 runner field on the course in Virginia Beach. Hollins placed 10th, one spot ahead of her arch rivals from Sweet Briar.
The 10th place effort was one spot higher than their expected finish according to the 2017 ODAC Women's Cross Country Preseason Poll. Hollinsed fished just 12 points back of Guilford in ninth place. Senior Jhovanna Salmeron earned 37th place points in the 94 runner field. Salmeron tackled the course in a time of 25:03.22. Her finish was better than all but one of the runners from the eighth and ninth place teams. Francesca Reilly just missed the top 50 when she secured 52nd place points with a 27:14.03 and bested all six of the Sweet Briar entrants. Rounding out the top three for the green and gold was Debra Henke, just 10 point slots behind Reilly. Kalyn Chapman and Hannah Schmidt completed the scoring for Hollins with Natasha Campbell finishing just 20 seconds behind Schmidt.
That race wraps up a fall season for a Hollins team that exceeded expectations in each of her five races. Salmeron will wrap up her career as the low time runner for Hollins in every meet that she competed.
