The Hollins cross country team traveled to Sweet Briar to face her long time rivals in a dual meet. The two Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foes would send a total of 13 runners out on a 6K course. Despite having one less runner, Hollins top her rival by three points, making it 2-0 this season against the Vixens.
Senior Jhovanna Salmeron, fresh off her best finish (4th at Greensboro), won the first race of her career for the green and gold. Salmeron posted a final time of 28:04.03 to best the field by two minutes and 45 seconds. Sophomore Francesca Reilly gave Hollins a 1-2 finish by topping Sweet Briar's highest finisher by 22 seconds. Reilly, 30:49.44, and Salmeron were the only two runners to beat the 31 minute mark. Debra Henke just missed giving Hollins a clean sweep of the top three spots by placing fourth, 31:40.15, a full 22 seconds clear of her nearest rival. Kalyn Chapman and Hannah Schmidt captured 9th and 10th place points to secure the win for the road squad.
Hollins will travel to Gettysburg next weekend in her final tune-up prior to the 2017 ODAC Championships on October 28th.
