Buena Vista, VA - Saturday marked the end of the first cross country season in a decade for Hollins. Their final meet of the season was the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Cross Country Championships. 11 conference schools contested the championship over a 6K course at the Vista Links Golf Club in Buena Vista.
The host Generals of Washington and Lee won the title with Hollins coming home 10th. Hollins bested their arch rivals from Sweet Briar by almost 30 points.
As has been the case all season long, Jhovanna Salmeron paced Hollins with a time of 27:26.6 and secured 47th place points in the 93 runner field. Sarah Rubin finished second for the green and gold with a time of 28:46.9 and brought home 51st place points. Levene LeBlanc crossed the finish line a split second ahead of teammate Antonia Perez-Bravo and Kalyn Chapman rounded out the top five for Hollins. At each of the checkpoints, Hollins slowly closed the gap with 9th place Guilford College, but ran out of real estate before catching the Quakers.
With every runner on the Hollins roster having eligibility remaining the program has built a nice foundation on which to grow the program going forward.
