Ferrum, VA - For the final time before they join the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) next season, Hollins took on Ferrum College in a non-conference matchup. It was the second of five straight matches away from home for a Hollins team that is entering her last two weeks of regular season play.
Ferrum welcomed their guests by taking the first five points of the evening. Hollins never could wrestle the momentum away from Ferrum and the Panthers cruised to an opening set victory, 25-10. The two teams traded the lead back and forth in a second set that saw the Panthers enjoy an early four point advantage before Hollins would turn the tables and take a three point lead of their own. However, Ferrum would take six of the final eight points to push their lead to 2-0. The home team would take seven of the first nine points to seize control of the third frame. However, Hollins would win seven straight points to pull to within one, 19-20. Once again the host Panthers would end the set on a 5-2 surge to take the match.
Brie Faircloth led all Hollins attackers with seven kills. Kiki Speights recorded five kills and was involved in all three of the visitors blocks with Charlie Vollmers adding five kills. Sarah Freeman handed out 15 assists while Hannah Piatak had a team high 12 digs.
Cheyenne Strickland (13), Chemaiya Jordan (12), and Layura Henley (10) all recorded double-digit kills as Ferrum enjoyed a 48-24 advantage at the net. Strickland and Camryn Holt combined for 28 assists.
Hollins will travel to Shenandoah University on Friday as they get back into ODAC action before making a trip to Washington and Lee on Saturday.
