Roanoke, VA - Tuesday night would prove to be a tough task for the young Hollins volleyball team. The two-time defending Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Champion Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets came to Roanoke for a conference match. The Yellow Jackets brought a, perfect, 5-0 ODAC record into the matchup.
The defending champs wasted little time in seizing control of the match. After Hollins won the opening point via a Kiki Speights attack, Macon won three straight. After a pair of rare Yellow Jacket ball handling errors, the set was tied at 3-3. From that point on, the visitors from Ashland would win 15 of the next 16 points en route to a 1-0 lead. The second frame was a lot more fun for the home team. Hollins would stay with the Yellow Jackets and after two lead changes and six ties, the score was 13-13. Randolph-Macon would use three service aces in a 5-0 run to break open the closely contested set. The green and gold would cut the deficit to three, but could get no closer as the Yellow Jackets pushed their advantage to 2-1. The third set was once again close at the mid-way point, however the road team won the final 11 points to take the match, 3-0.
Brie Faircloth recorded eight kills on her team high 30 attacks. Speights had three kills and a block while Courtney Chappell added a pair of kills and a service ace. Casey Mahan and Sarah Freeman combined for 14 assists and Hannah Piatak registered a match-high 11 digs.
