Ferrum, VA - The Hollins volleyball team went on the road for a non-conference match with Ferrum on Tuesday night, It marked the third time this season that Hollins has faced off across the net from the Panthers, with Ferrum taking the first two matchups earlier in the season.
Ferrum got the best of Hollins at the Roanoke College Maroon Invitational before making it two for two at Hollins four weeks ago. The Panthers looked to go a perfect 3-3 against their in-state foe and got the match off to a quick start, 6-0. Casey Mahan set up Deja Hadden to stop the Ferrum run and lead Hollins back into the set, scoring seven of the next 11 points. However, the home team wouldn't allow Hollins all the way back and thanks to a 10-2 closing stretch, went up one set to none, 25-14. The road team hung around in the second frame until the Panthers got hot to rattle off 10 unanswered points en route to an easy win and a 2-0 lead. With the score tied at 5-5 in the third and ultimately, final set, Ferrum pulled away through the middle stages to complete the sweep, 25-12.
Hannah Helbert registered 12 of Ferrum's 42 kills. Cheyenne Strickland started the match winning six straight points including one of her four service aces. Strickland handed out 36 assists and Sarah Hendrix recorded 13 digs and a pair of service aces.
Hollins will have three straight home matches to finish out the week. Emory & Henry comes to town on Thursday night for a 7:00pm start.
