Lynchburg, VA - The Hollins volleyball team traveled to Lynchburg to face Randolph College on Friday night. The two long time Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foes squared off with each team looking for their first conference victory of the season.
Hollins has been getting much better starts as of late and tonight was no different. Randolph enjoyed the slimmest of leads, 16-15, as the opening frame entered its' closing points. The home team gained the momentum late in the set and took a 1-0 advantage on the back of a 25-20 win. The two rivals started the second stanza in a 5-5 tie until the WildCats went on a 15-7 run to seize control and take a 2-0 lead. Hollins couldn't recover from the Randolph second set surge and never got into the third set, watching the home team race out to a 12-3 lead. Hollins was unable to mount any sort of rally and fell, 20-12, to their hosts, 3-0.
Courtney Chappell recorded team highs in kills with five and digs with nine. Deja Hadden matched Chappell with five kills while Ki'Ana Speights added three kills, one solo and one assisted block. Setter Casey Mahan handed out a team high 15 assists.
Shelby Bergum led the WildCats with 13 kills with Autumn Troxell adding 10 kills and 11 digs.
Hollins will travel to Winston-Salem to face Salem College in a rematch on Monday night.
