Lexington, VA - Hollins faced the tough task of challenging Washington and Lee on Saturday morning in Lexington. The Generals came into the matchup 14th in the nation in the most recent DIII Women's Tennis rankings. Last weekend at the ITA Indoor National Championships, W&L placed sixth and came into the match with a perfect 4-0 conference record while Hollins would need a huge upset to record their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory.
In doubles action the #1 team of Jhovanna Salmeron and Kate Woodruff would push their opponents to an ad situation and several deuce points before falling behind in the opening stages. Despite coming back to take a game later in the match, the Generals won in the end, 8-1, and claimed all three doubles points. In singles play, Washington and Lee looked to make it a clean sweep of their guests. After taking every match 6-0 and 6-0, Sarah Jordan Snoddy would not go quietly at #4. After dropping the first set, Snoddy would see herself down 3-0 before she would mount a rally to pull with 5-2. Ashton Jenne would take the final game and Hollins would have to wait until next Friday to once again look for their first ODAC win of the young season.
Weather permitting, Hollins is scheduled to host Ferrum College on Tuesday afternoon in advance of their visit to Guilford College on the 16th.
