Salem, VA - The Hollins tennis team played her last regular season match on Thursday afternoon. Hollins would travel across town to face Roanoke College in hopes of winning a fifth consecutive match to close out the 2017 campaign.
The home standing Maroons would race out to a 3-0 sweep of the doubles matches. In singles competition, Roanoke would win four of the six matches and with the outcome decided, the final two individual matches would be halted and the final score was a 7-0 win by Roanoke.
In singles, the match was decided and called but at the #3 slot, Amelia Verkerk was getting ready for a third set tie breaker. After falling in the first set, 6-4, Verkerk rallied to take set number two, 6-4, to set up a third and deciding frame.
Hollins will await their opponent in the 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament that will get started later this month.
