Buena Vista, VA - Thursday afternoon marked the middle of three scheduled matches this week for the Hollins tennis team. After hosting Bridgewater on Tuesday, Hollins traveled to Southern Virginia for a non-conference matchup on Thursday afternoon. The Knights proved to be inhospitable hosts as the home team took all three doubles matches to seize control.
In singles competition Hollins found the win column at #3 when Amelia Verkerk won for the second time this week. After pulling off a thrilling, come from behind, three set, win against Bridgewater, the junior took the pro set, 8-3, over her opponent from Southern Virginia. At the #2 spot, Hollins came close to taking her second point of the evening but, fist-year Olivia Dannon came up just short in the closest match of the session when she fell 5-8.
Hollins will be back in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Saturday afternoon. Virginia Wesleyan will come to town for a 2:00pm start.
