Roanoke, VA - Less than 24 hours after hosting 16th ranked Washington and Lee, the Hollins tennis team stepped out of conference to face Mary Baldwin University on Wednesday afternoon. Hollins took all three doubles matches en route to their second home victory of the season, 8-1.
The doubles team of Kateri Johnson and Casey Mahan cruised to an 8-0 win at #3 while the #2 duo of Amelia Verkerk and Sarah Jordan Snoddy dropped just one game, winning 8-1. At #1 doubles the two teams were knotted up at 7-7 before Jhovanna Salmeron and Htet Myat San took the final two games to give Hollins the 3-0 advantage. The home team carried the momentum into singles competition, winning five of the six matches to post the 8-1 victory. San, Johnson, and Snoddy each won their singles matches without giving up a game, 6-0 and 6-0.
Hollins will travel to face Emory & Henry College on Friday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action. The winner will have a leg up on securing a berth in the ODAC Championship Tournamet later in the season.
