Roanoke, VA - After playing four matches in Hilton Head over the spring break, Hollins returned home to defend the courts at the Batten Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon. The opponent, the Generals of Washington and Lee, currently ranked 16th in NCAA DIII.
Hollins would need a big effort verses the heavily favored Generals. In doubles play, Washington and Lee enjoyed a straight sets win at #1. However, the Hollins duo of Kateri Johnson and Kaitlyn Woodruff were more than holding their own on court three. Johnson and Woodruff found themselves down, 2-5, as the match went along. Hannah Archer and Dee Dee Aeschliman were able to finally seize control of the match and went on to pick up W&L's third doubles win heading into singles play. As the sun began to set and the individual matches came to a close, the Generals had come to Roanoke and defeated Hollins, 9-0.
Hollins will be back in action tomorrow afternoon with a mid-season, non-conference, match against Mary Baldwin University. The match with the Squirrels is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.
