Hilton Head, SC - The Hollins University tennis team took on Frostburg State on Wednesday of Spring Break. Hollins traveled to Hilton Head to play several matches over the break.
The #1 doubles team of Jhovanna Salmeron and Kateri Johnson got the match off on the right foot with an 8-3 win. However, the Bobcats won at #2 and 33 to take the lead going into singles play. Salmeron picked up her second win of the afternoon when she won a three set match at #1. At #2, Olivia Dannon picked up the first individual win of her first-year season. Dannon bested Kennedy Logsdon, 6-1 and 6-1, to give Hollins wins at the top two spots. Amelia Verkerk made it a sweep of the top three positions when she finished off her opponent, 6-4 and 6-0, at #3 singles. Frostburg picked up a straight sets win at #5 to cut the Hollins advantage to 4-3. Needing just one of the final two matches, Hollins would have to play a third and decisive set in each of the remaining matches. The Bobcats would take both of the final two points to complete the comeback and defeat Hollins, 5-4.
