Bridgewater, VA - The Hollins swim team entered the final weekend of the regular season on Friday night. The team traveled to Bridgewater to compete in a tri-meet with the Eagles and Virginia Wesleyan one day in advance of their home finale on Saturday. Hollins defeated the Marlins, 127-41, while falling to the host, 142-82.
The event featured 14 events, two relays and 12 individual races. Hollins picked up five wins in the individual events while finishing runner-up in both relays. Alex Sanchez got Hollins off to a hot start by besting the field by over two seconds in the 200 Freestlye. In the next event, the 100 Bakcstroke, Hollins made it two for two after Maya Schattgen out-touched her opponent by .58 of a second. Sanchez returned in the 50 Freestyle and added another win in advance of her thrid victory in the 100 Freestyle. The sophomore made it a clean sweep, 3-3, in her individual swims. Schattgen added runner-up points in the 200 Backstroke and a third in the 100 Butterfly.
Hollins fifth individual win belonged to Hanna DeVarona when she topped the field in the 200 Breaststroke. DeVarona also scored second place points in the 100 Breaststroke. In that same race, Molly Sullivan, finished just behind her teammate to secure third place points. Hollins claimed another set of runner-up points when Emily Miehlke finished behind Sanchez in the 100 Freestyle. The final event of the meet was the 200 Freestyle Relay. In the finale, Dani Raymond and Megan Bull teamed with DeVarona and Miehlke to finish just behind the team from Bridgewater.
Hollins will wrap up the regular season tomorrow after noon when they host a quad-meet featuring Greensboro, Guilford, and Roanoke. Prior to the meet Hollins will take a few minutes to honor Raymond, her lone senior.
