Lexington, VA - The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) held it's annual beginning of the season get together at Washington and Lee on Saturday. The ODAC Relay Meet would feature 11 of the 12 conference schools, Guilford did not make the trip from Greensboro, and held just one day after the release of the 2017-18 ODAC Preseason Poll.
Hollins placed sixth, the exact finish that was revealed in the preseason poll on Friday morning. The event consisted of various relays, many that were held for the only time this season, contested in 10 different races. The host Generals won the meet with Randolph-Macon as the runner-up and Bridgewater rounding out the top three. Hollins 90 points were 31 clear of the seventh place team, Sweet Briar College.
The best finish of the meet was a seventh place effort in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The team of Alex Sanchez, Emily Miehlke, Maya Schattgen, and Grace Davis got out-touched by Bridgewater by just .12 of a second. The time of 1:49.0 was just behind the Eagles 148.88 effort and the Randolph-Macon team's 1:48.83.
Hollins also posted a pair of eighth place efforts in the 400 Freestyle Relay and the 3x50 Butterfly Relay. The same team that swam the 200 Relay posted a 400 time of 4:04.07, less than four ticks behind Randolp-Macon. In the Butterfly the trio of Schattgen, Davis, and Sanchez turned the tables on the Yellow Jackets by besting them to the wall by .02 seconds, 1:28.48 to 1:28.50.
Molly Sullivan, Megan Bull, Hanna DeVarona, and Dani Raymond picked up ninth place points in the 500 Freestyle Relay that consisted of a 50, 100, 150, and 200 leg. The other ninth place finish came with Davis, DeVarona, Schattgen, and Sanchez in the 200 Medley Relay.
Hollins will travel to Ferrum next Saturday to compete in a tri-meet with the Panthers and LaGrange.
