Greensboro, NC - The annual Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) swim awards were given out this past weekend at the 2017 ODAC Swim Championships in Greensboro. In addition to helping the team earn a fifth place finish, co-captain Dani Raymond was named the 2016-17 recipient of the Bonnie Kestner Sportsmanship Award.
The annual award is given out by the conference to the swimmer that best personifies that following criteria: Demonstrate consistently good sportsmanship, ethical behavior, and unselfishness in their daily participation in collegiate athletics. Demonstrate good sportsmanship outside of the sports-competition setting. Student-athlete must be in good academic standing and listed on the school's roster as a swimmer, manager, or coach.
Raymond, a junior, has been Hollins primary distance swimmer for the past two seasons. In the past two ODAC Championships, Dani has represented Hollins in the finals of three of her possible four distance events, including a 12th place finish in the 1650 this past weekend. In addition to being a team captain, Raymond is the Vice-Chair of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), as well as work as an intern in the league offices this past J-term.
After being nominated for the award, Raymond's application was presented to the ODAC swim committee and their decision was announced at the award presentations after the conclusion of the championship meet.
