Greensboro, NC - The 2017 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Swim Championships got started on Friday morning. The Prelims were held at 11:00am with the first day final heats being contested at 6:30pm. A pair of relays and three individual events would headline the first of day days of action in the pool at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
The Championshipe kicked off with the 200 Freestyle Relay. The team of Alexandra Sanchez, Lucy Manjikian, Maya Schattgen, and Debra Henke put together their fastest swim of the season. Each member of the quartet posted her best 50 time of the season and secured fifth place points to get the meet off to a quick start.
Heartbreak in the 500 Freestyle prelims as Dani Raymond would have easily qualified for the finals had it not been for a wave that hit the junior on her final turn. Despite one of her best times, the wave cost her over two seconds on the final turn and kept her out of the finals by just over one second.
Henke would knock six second off her lifetime best in securing a spot in the 200 Indvidual Medley. Deb would enter the finals in 12th and after another solid swim, would finish the finals in 14th place, her best individual finish at the ODAC Championships.
The last event of the evening would be the 400 Medley Relay. The same foursome that tackled the 200 Freestyle Relay was back in action and duplicated their earlier performance, a fifth place finish. The final time of 4:29.56 was 15 seconds better than the time that the Holiins team posted at the 2016 Championships.
