Hollins Tops Sweet Briar On Road

Sweet Briar, VA - After opening the season with a sweep of Guilford and Greensboro at home, the Hollins swim team traveled to face their rivals from Sweet Briar on Saturday afternoon. Hollins competed in a tri-meet with the Vixens and Cedar Crest. Hollins has already defeated Sweet Briar earlier this season when they bested the Vixens at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Relays.

Hollins topped Sweet Briar, 89-87, while the meet with Cedar Crest ended in a 93-93 deadlock.

Dani Raymond enjoyed another excellent afternoon. The sophomore dominated the distance events, as she has for her first season and a half. Raymond swept the two distance events and added a third in the 200 Freestyle. In the 800, Raymond earned first place points by finishing 39 seconds clear of teammate Betzy Liriano. Liriano also finished 2nd in the 400 Freestyle when she finished 18 seconds behind Raymond and added 4th place points in the 100 free. Debra Henke won the 200 Individual Medley after she anchored the 400 Medley Relay to start the meet with a first place finish for Hollins. Henke teamed with Maya Schattgen, Lucy Manjikian, and Alexandra Sanchez to win the relay and give Hollins a lead that they would never give up. Sanchez added a 2nd in the 100 Butterfly and a 3rd in the 50 Freestyle. Manjikian returned 3rd place points in the 200 IM and the 100 Breaststroke while Schattgen registered a top three in the 100 Backstroke. Kaleigh DePetro brought home 4th place points in a trio of events (50, 200, and400 free) to help seal the victory over Sweet Briar.

Hollins will return to their home pool next weekend when they host Gallaudet and Ferrum for a tri-meet on Saturday.
