Lexington, VA - For the first time this season, the best swimmers in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) competed in the same pool. Saturday was the ODAC Relay meet hosted by Washington and Lee. The one day team event consisted of 10 relay races that were contested at different distances and in different disciplines. Hollins placed fifth in the nine team field, besting arch rival Sweet Briar by 37 points.
The afternoon started with the 3x50 Butterfly Relay and Hollins posted a solid seventh place finish to begin the meet. Maya Schattgen was first in the pool for Hollins as she teamed with Alexandra Sanchez and Debra Henke to post a time of 1:30.37, a full four seconds ahead of the team from Guilford College and a mere .52 seconds out of sixth. Hollins best events of the afternoon were a pair of sixth place finishes in the 3x50 Breaststroke and 200 Freestyle. Schattgen, Sanchez, and Henke teamed up for a 1:51.84 in the Breaststroke with Betzy Liriano teaming with the trio in the 200 Freestyle.
Later in the meet, Schattgen, Sanchez, and Henke once again teamed up to secure seventh place points in the 300 Individual Medley relay. In the 500 Crescendo Relay, Sanchez and Liriano swam the first two legs and gave way to Kaleigh DePetro and with Dani Raymond swimming the anchor leg, Hollins brought home eighth place points.
Next weekend will see Hollins at home for the first time this season. Greensboro and Guilford will travel to Roanoke for a tri-meet and after defeating the Pride and Quakers in the relays, Hollins will look to get the regular season started with a pair of individual wins.
