Bridgewater, VA - The Hollins swim team and their perfect, 4-0, record went on the road to kick off 2016. Bridgewater College hosted Hollins and Washington & Lee in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tri-meet. It marked the first time that Hollins had seen the Eagles and Generals in the pool since finishing behind their rivals at the ODAC Relay meet way back in mid-October.
Hollins and her nine swimmer roster had trouble keeping up with both deep and talented conference foes. At meet's end, Hollins suffered their first losses of the season by falling, 46-155, to the Eagles and coming up on the short end of a 118-61 score with the Generals. Washington and Lee earned the sweep when they bested the Eagles, 115-75.
Senior Claire Webber (Blauvelt, NY) earned a pair of individual victories during the 11 event, women's meet. Webber finished first in the 400 meter Freestyle with a time of 4:58.63, over 20 seconds ahead of her opponent from Bridgewater. After taking a quick break to watch the men's 400 Freestyle, Webber was right back in the pool and earning her second individual win in the 100 meter Breaststroke. Webber bested another Eagle swimmer with teammate Lucy Manjikian (Chesapeake, VA) finishing third.
In the longest event of the afternoon, Dani Raymond (Fredericksburg, VA) posted one of her best times of the season. Raymond earned a fifth place finish in the 800 meter Freestyle when she posted a final time of 12.23.06, over 23 seconds better than her seed time. Faith Wendelin (Floyd, VA) earned fourth place points when she just missed a top three in the 400 meter Freestyle.
Hollins will back in the pool on Wednesday night when they travel to face Ferrum College. Hollins will look to get back in the win column against a Panther team that they defeated, 113-64, back in November.
