Baltimore, MD - The Hollins swim team traveled to Maryland to face Notre Dame in a regular season ending, dual meet. Hollins just missed winning the opening relay and had to play catch up the rest of the afternoon. When the meet came to an end, it was indeed that first event that proved to be the difference on the scoreboard as Hollins fell to the Gators, 66-53.
The opening event, 160 Medley Relay, proved to be the difference in the meet. The Hollins team of Meg O'Brien (Chattanooga, TN), Dani Raymond (Fredericksburg, VA), Hayley Caulfeild-James (Willow Street, PA), and Ashley Gao (Pearland, TX) got out-touched by their hosts, giving Notre Dame the all important seven points.
O'Brien came right back in the longest event of the afternoon, 1000 Freestyle, to secure first place points for Hollins. The senior finished runner up in the 200 Backstroke before recording another win in the last individual race of the event, 160 Individual Medley. During her win in the IM, O'Brien set the Hollins school record for the fastest 40 yard backstroke in program history.
Caulfeild-James finished another strong outing by adding a pair of second place finishes, 200 Freestyle and 200 Butterfly, before winning the 100 Butterfly by 13 seconds. Raymond excelled in her individual events as well. The first-year swimmer added first place points when she and classmate Kateri Peterson (Vinton, VA) recorded a 1,2 finish in the 500 Freestyle.
Gao and Peterson combined to add third place points in five different events. Aubrey Hobby (South Pittsburg, TN) finished runner up in 100 Butterfly and 160 Individual Medley as Hollins combined for 15 top three finishes during the individual events.
Hollins wraps up the regular season with a 7-5 record, their third winning record in the past four seasons. Hollins will have two weeks to prepare for the 2015 ODAC Swimming Championships. The three day event will be held February 13-15 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, NC.
