Roanoke, VA - After sweeping a tri-meet at Greensboro College on Friday night, the Hollins swim team was back in action on Saturday afternoon. The meet, originally scheduled as a tri-meet at Hampden Sydney, was held on the Hollins campus and had to be switched to a dual meet with Guilford College due to the weather. For the second meet in a row, Hollins bested their ODAC rivals from the south.
The meet consisted of 14 events, 12 individual races and a pair of relays. Hollins claimed first place points in 10 of the 14 events securing a 160-76 victory over the Quakers and running their record to 7-4 on the season.
Dani Raymond (Fredericksburg, VA) got Hollins off to a quick start by winning the first individual event, the 1000 Freestyle. Raymond came back later in the afternoon to win the 500 Freestyle and finish runner up in the 100 Freestyle. Bethany Huss (Durham, NC) went a perfect 3-3 by wining each of her individual events, 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, and 100 Butterfly. Both Raymond and Huss were also responsible for a leg in the Hollins winning relay teams.
Hayley Caulfeild-James (Willow Street, PA) added a pair of wins and a second place finish. The sophomore finished ahead of the field in the 200 Freestyle and the 200 Butterfly while just being out touched in the 100 Butterfly. Senior Meg O'Brien (Chattanooga, TN) finished her last swims in the Hollins pool with a 40 second victory in the 200 Backstroke. O'Brien also finished runner up in the 100 Backstroke and the 400 Individual Medley.
Hollins used their depth to pull away from the Quakers. Hollins not only won 10 events, but they registered seven runner up and eight, third place finishes. Chelsea Sheppard (Christiansburg, VA) and Aubrey Hobby (South Pittsburg, TN) each added a second and third place finish. Megan David (Roanoke, VA) and Juanica Nash (Detroit, MI) finished behind O'Brien to give Hollins a 1,2,3 sweep in the 200 Backstroke. Kateri Peterson (Vinton, VA) recorded a trio of third place points and Haley Ortiz (Portsmouth, VA) added third place points to the Hollins total.
Hollins will take some well deserved rest before finishing their regular season next Saturday. Hollins will travel to Notre Dame, MD in their last meet before the end of season 2015 ODAC Swim Championships in mid February.
