Sweet Briar, VA - Having bested their arch rival Sweet Briar back at the ODAC Relays in October, Hollins traveled to face the Vixens in a dual meet on Tuesday night. A short handed Hollins squad faced an uphill battle that they were unable to climb against their ODAC rivals. The Vixens turned the tables on Hollins as the home team bested their rivals, 166-36.
The meet started with Sweet Briar taking the top two spots in the opening relay and then home team carried that momentum into the individual races. The Vixens took first place points in all 12 events.
Hayley Caulfeild-James (Willow Street, PA) just missed winning the 50 Freestyle when the sophomore touched the wall a mere .08 seconds behind the Sweet Briar swimmer. Caulfeild-James came back later in the meet to record a third place finish in the 400 Freestyle. Senior Meg O'Brien (Chattanooga, TN) competed in back to back events recording a third and fourth place finish. O'Brien placed third in the 200 Individual Medley and turned right around, fighting fatigue, to earn fourth place points in the 100 Butterfly. Hollins closed the meet by coming in second in the 800 Freestyle Relay. The team of Megan David (Roanoke, VA), Haley Ortiz (Portsmouth, VA), Chelsea Sheppard (Christiansburg, VA), and Kateri Peterson (Vinton, VA) brought home Hollins only other top three finish for the night.
Hollins will continue their end of season road trip when they travel to Greensboro for a tri-meet with Greensboro and Guilford on Friday night.
